Andy Moore
As an engineer with a background in farming, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and potential of the agricultural industry, and it was clear that there was a lot of room for improvement. During my time at University I developed a product that improves teat hygiene and limits the spread of pathogens cow to cow, while also taking measurements to indicate pre-clinical mastitis. During my work as an engineer at ADF Milking, I helped to develop a product that regulates mouthpiece vacuum to improve cow comfort and welfare. I am incredibly grateful to the Trehane Trust for their sponsorship and support.
How has automation affected the dairy landscape and where do we go from here?

Study Overview
In my research, I will explore how automation is transforming the dairy industry, from robotic milking to AI-powered herd management. By examining both the benefits and challenges of these technologies, I aim to offer insights into how the industry can adapt to a more automated future to overcome current and future issues, such as labour shortages, welfare and climate change.
Through my work, I hope to contribute to a future where automation improves productivity, supports environmental sustainability, and ensures the well-being of both farmers and animals in the dairy sector.
