Ifan Roberts

Having grown up on a family farm in North Wales, I knew from an early age that I had a real passion for both dairy farming and business. After graduating from agricultural college in 2014 I have now been fortunate enough to have spent 9 years steadily progressing up the dairy farming ladder, starting out as a general farm worker to now managing a 1000 cow dairy farm in Leicestershire. Personally, I cannot wait to get started on my Nuffield scholarship as I know how much there is to be gained and how many doors it could open for me at this stage in my career. I am also very keen to deliver value for my kind sponsors the Trehane trust of whom I am very thankful for their support.

Inspiring the next generation of dairy entrepreneurs

Study Overview

After a recent study of Arla producers concluded that 58% are finding it harder to find staff now than in 2019 despite respondents increasing pay by a quarter during this time. 12% of these producers regarded this challenge of finding staff a reason to exit the industry altogether. The aim of my study will be to give current employees in our industry, as well as others from outside of agriculture, inspiration to further progress their careers. ‘Climbing the dairy farming ladder’ to give producers new ideas in how to encourage and facilitate this.
