Deer have fascinated me for longer than I can remember. I had the opportunity to work on the deer department at Woburn Abbey, in time moving and up the ladder to eventually taking over the department and managing the deer operation there at 26 years old. In 2017 with my wife Amy and first son Angus we moved back to Sussex to set up a new commercial deer farm, which is still juvenile and growing with a total of 1400 head of stock.

Influences affecting management and productivity of deer as a semi-domesticated species in an intensive farming system

Study Overview

I hope in my studies to look at some of the husbandry and management issues which we come across when farming deer due to their natural behaviours and annual cycles and to see if there is ways around these or improvements to reduce the issues.
