I grew up on my family farm, earned a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, and worked five years in international motorsport before serving as a Royal Engineer Officer in the British Army. After a life on the road, I returned to the farm to settle down and establish a grass-based dairy unit. Several years on, my wife is ready for me to work abroad again and so I’m looking forward to using my background in engineering, data systems, and farming to help me connect technology with practical applications that are in market or near market across the globe.

From gut feel to data smart: Artificial Intelligence tools for dairy farmers.

Study Overview

Dairy farmers today have access to more real-time data than ever—from commodity markets and weather forecasts to smart tags and livestock sensors. The rapid uptake of wearable technology across the UK dairy herd shows that farmers are ready and willing to embrace new technologies when they deliver real value.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can help the UK dairy sector stay competitive, innovate faster, and adapt to change. Because AI is accelerating—right now. Costs are dropping, capabilities are exploding, and industries that wait risk falling behind. The tools are mature enough to deploy, but still new enough to give early adopters a major edge.

Globally, agriculture is undergoing an accelerated AI revolution—and this is a pivotal moment. There is an opportunity to position the UK dairy industry as a leader in tech-enabled, sustainable farming and I wish to capture valuable insights into a fast-moving landscape.
