The ranks of the northern group have been swelled this year by the addition of the four 2019 scholars looking at a range of topics including achieving excellence in University and College Farms; heifer strategies for suckler herds; tourism/ education for pig farmers and finally the power of microbiome for happy healthy pigs! We congratulate them on their success and look forward to hear about their topics as they go through their Nuffield journey.
We had a successful and impressive show of scholars from all over the region at the Nuffield reception at the Great Yorkshire Show, which also attracted some new potential scholars and sponsors and raised the profile of Nuffield across the region. We are continuing to strengthen our links across the region as we plan a Winter event working with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and the Future Farmers group. Our aim is to have pipeline scholars coming through the ranks of Future Farmers.
We put a lot of effort into supporting and encouraging potential scholars for this year and had a very successful mock interview evening in September interviewing seven potential scholars. We are looking forward to seeing as many of them as possible at the Winter conference in Warwickshire this year.
What does 2020 hold for the region? Working with Charlotte Merson we are looking to run more activities across the northern region, encouraging as many northern alumni to get involved as possible.
