An ambassador for lifelong learning
2003 Nuffield Scholar - TIM DOWNES - studied ‘The role of discussion forums for business advance’ TIM DOWNES has always been open to new ideas to remain cutting edge on his mixed organic dairy, beef and arable farm in Shropshire. But the knowledge he gained from his Scholarship travels - to South America, Australia and New Zealand - to meet some of the best broad acre, beef, dairy and fruit farming discussion groups has served to galvanise his belief in the benefits of lifelong learning groups and forums. “The enthusiasm and drive to succeed, to fulfill goals and set targets for both farm and life was inspiring and infectious,” says Tim, who has gone on to use his findings to improve the effectiveness and success of the many organisations, groups and forums he facilitates and supports today, both nationally and locally.
“My Nuffield experience has added fuel to the fire of learning from others, which continues to benefit the efficiency and competitiveness of our own family farm.
“The chance to mix with like-minded Scholars, both socially and in a business context, has also been a real source of motivation and encouragement.”
