Chance of a lifetime
| Don’t miss out on the chance of a lifetime - the chance to take part in the unique ‘Nuffield experience’ that can bring benefits to your business or career, as well as your own personal development. The Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust (NFST) is seeking applications from people, aged between 22 and 45 years old, who believe there is a bright, exciting future in farming, food and rural industries, and who hold a deep passion for their area of work. “Since its formation 60 years ago, the Trust has created over 600 opportunities at home and over a 1,000 worldwide for individuals with vision and energy, for individuals looking to develop themselves and for individuals wanting to make a difference to farming, food and rural communities,” says John Stones, NFST Director. His message is clear: “Don’t miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime; the chance to travel the globe and expand your horizons, to pursue new ideas, methods and technologies, and to make a difference to your business and your life. "All of our scholars have a life-changing opportunity to break free from their everyday experiences, to study an issue that’s of genuine interest to them, and to develop personally through study and travel. They will meet some of the world’s leaders in their field and return with findings of benefit to their industry, their business and to themselves. “Quite simply, a Scholarship will open their eyes, their ears and their mind.” The NFST awards around 20 Scholarships each year, providing travel and subsistence costs for a period of eight weeks in return for a written paper and the presentation of study findings at its annual Winter Conference. Recent notable reports have included ‘Tender, tasty beef - every time’, ‘The profitable use of anaerobic digestion on UK farms’, ‘Agriculture in the school curriculum’, ‘Facilitating rural development’, ‘Best practice in farm shop retailing’, ‘Energy crops and the market for biomass’, ‘The opportunities that GM and other biotechnologies offer to both consumers and farmers’ and ‘A farm labour force of the future’. Many Nuffield Scholars have subsequently gone on to positively transform their industry sector, with outstanding examples shaping the development of the egg and broiler industries, crop irrigation, alternative energy sources and on-farm education.
