A Nuffield Farming Scholarship enables eligible individuals to carry out an indepth study of a topic of their choice, carrying out an extensive study tour anywhere in the world, visiting one or a series of countries to further their knowledge and understanding. No academic qualifications are required for the award of a Nuffield Farming Scholarship, but applicants must be:
- A UK resident aged between 22 and 45 years old (inclusive) at the application date.

- Working in farming, rural land-based industry, or the food industry as an owner, manager or employee.

- Engaged for at least two years in the industry and intend to remain involved.
Timetable
- The Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust (NFST) administers the Scholarship programme and provides reasonable travel and subsistence costs to fund the study. It also provides practical assistance with travel and study plans.
A
- Scholarships are awarded in January each year and must be completed within 18 months of award, during which time the Scholar will travel and study for at least eight weeks in total.

- Scholars attend an international pre-study conference and briefing in late February, held in association with Nuffield bodies in other countries. Participants learn from key organisations and agri-businesses about the economics and politics of global agriculture, develop their leadership skills and gather information relevant to their individual studies. Other opportunities for fact finding visits to key farming countries, including Europe, Asia and the Antipodes, are also offered as part of the programme.

- On completion of the study tour, Scholars are expected to compile a report précis for the Nuffield annual report, followed by a full report within three months of study completion which will be published.

- Scholars present their findings at an Annual Conference held in late October/early November. They are also encouraged to communicate their new knowledge and experience widely to others in the industry in which they work.

- Having successfully completed a Scholarship, the learning process continues for life. Scholars enjoy a programme of regular sector and regional study meetings, visits and farm walks held in the UK and abroad, in addition to one-off specialist industry conferences staged by the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust
