Bruce Harnett - Intensive Horticulture - Man versus Machine
I live and work in Cornwall managing an ornamental plant nursery, Kernock Park Plants. The nursery was established by my parents Richard and Jan in the mid 1980’s. I now manage the growing business together with a management team which includes my wife, Jo. We live on site and have a young family including a fun-loving son Isaac (4) and beautiful daughter Gwen (1).
Kernock Park Plants has just over 4Ha (10ac) of protected growing area and supplies over 15 million young plants, mostly to customers within the United Kingdom and Ireland, but also to the European mainland. We offer over 1200 varieties crossing several sectors of ornamental horticulture. The business employs 60 people, rising to over 80 in the peak season.
Previous to working at Kernock Park Plants, I studied Environmental Science at King’s College, London, worked in South Africa for one year in a riverine ecology department, University of the Witwatersrand and have also worked and studied at Plymouth University as part of a graduate placement scheme.
Outside of work I enjoy spending some quality time with my family, extended families and catching up with our friends. When I do manage to sneak a few hours for myself I can be found on the golf course and try to get a trip a year skiing and snowboarding.
