MBE for John Green - 1949 Nuffield Scholar
Congratulations go to one of our oldest and most respected Scholars, John Green, who was awarded an Order Of The British Empire MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for voluntary service to the Helford River Children's Sailing Trust.
John founded the Helford River Children's Sailing Trust (http://hrcst.org.uk/wp/) back in 1997. Since then the Trust has gone from strength to strength and has allowed thousands of youngsters to learn to row and sail. Even though he stood down as leader three years ago, John retains a close interest in the charity and says his MBE should be seen as an endorsement of the Trust and all those volunteers who keep it running.
"It's a marvelous thing for the Trust," he said. "It is nice to be reminded of all those people who actively enabled the thing to get off the ground. I am very grateful to my family, the hundreds of volunteers who are the trust's lifeblood and the leaders who come forward to continue our service to young people.

Sixty years ago, John received one of only four Scholarships awarded by the NFST scholarship scheme that was only in its fourth year of existence.
