2010 Frank Arden Conference
New technologies to transform UK agriculture
Book now to benefit from a unique science and technology conference - http://www.farm-smart.co.uk/new-technologies/index.htm
Latest advances in science and technology that provide practical help to ensure the UK agri-food industry competes in the global market are the focus of a leading edge conference, to be held on Tuesday, 20th April at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.
As well as introducing important new research, the event will include case studies that illustrate how this new technology can be used in the UK. A round-table debate will also provide farmers and growers with a unique opportunity to influence future research and shape how results are transferred to a wider audience.
The event begins with the launch of two new studies, funded by the Frank Arden Memorial Fund, which is awarded by the Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust. David Gardner, Head of Fruit Operations at the Co-Operative Farms and Farm Business Consultant, Lindsay Hargreaves, will present research from awards they received to carry out a unique study into ʻNew science and frontier technologies that have the potential to transform the UK agriculture and food sectorsʼ.
But these papers are not about ʻblue sky thinkingʼ or ʻpipe dreams', stresses John Stones, Director Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust. "The key message the Scholars are presenting is that this technology is ready now. Itʼs not only available, but also already being employed in the UK and other countries to help boost output, reduce inputs as well as open up possibilities in new and novel markets," he explains.
The conference also includes ʻNew Technology in Action case studiesʼ, presented by past Nuffield Scholars, who will demonstrate exactly how the latest ideas are being put to practical use today.
These presentations include ways to boost arable input efficiencies; improve the eco footprint in intensive livestock production; and a focus on vegetable innovation and processing to create new markets.
The event provides an ideal opportunity for delegates to discuss their research needs with industry leaders, particularly in respect to what is required from the investment in agricultural research coming on stream from the Technology Strategy Board.
